A mini earthquake struck Milton Keynes this morning, and hundreds of residents throughout the area reported experiencing tremors.

At 9:45 am (GMT) a minor earthquake of magnitude 3.3 was registered and Aylesbury was pointed out as the epicenter of the earthquake.

Thousands of people in the Milton Keynes area have said they felt and saw the shaking, with some people reporting that their homes and cars shook.

Most of North Buckinghamshire experienced the earthquake, and people on each Milton Keynes estate felt different levels of shaking. “I’m in Middleton and the whole house shook,” said one person.

MKFM also spoke with a man in Far Bletchley who said he felt the earthquake while he was upstairs at his home, but his wife, who was downstairs, felt nothing. “I was sitting in my study,” he said, “then a heavy box under my desk started shaking. It probably lasted about ten seconds and it felt pretty strong.”

Since then, Bucks Fire has received multiple calls to 999 reporting the minor earthquake, but officers have not had to attend any actual incidents.

Residents of nearby Dunstable and Leighton Buzzard have also contacted MKFM to report their experience. A Leighton Buzzard lady recounted how her bed and closet were shaking, adding: “[I] He looked out the window to see that the neighbors were outside checking their ceilings to make sure everyone was okay. Originally I thought someone had fallen out of bed in another room and that had shaken the house. “
