West Brom has not approached Sam Allardyce to replace Slaven Bilic, Sky Sports News understands, amid reports, the Croatian will be fired.
The Premier League club has declined to comment on reports claiming Bilic will be sacked on Wednesday, despite his team winning a 1-1 draw against Manchester City on Tuesday night.
Bilic guided West Brom into promotion last season, but the team have struggled on their return to the top flight, winning just once in the Premier League against bottom line Sheffield United.
West Brom is still second last, despite the draw against City, but is just two points behind 17th place, Burnley.
Bilic insists he is relaxed about his future despite speculation surrounding his role.
“I am very calm. I love my job, I enjoy it and I am working hard for myself and my staff for the club,” said Bilic, after the draw at the Etihad.
“Everything else is out of my control. I’m doing the best I can. I don’t think about other things. I’m not bothered by what’s happening behind the scenes, I don’t care.”
Reports also suggest that former England manager Allardyce tops the list of candidates to potentially replace Bilic at The Hawthorns.
Allardyce hasn’t had a role since he was fired by Everton in 2018, but the former boss of Bolton, Blackburn and West Ham says he turned down the opportunity to return to Newcastle before Steve Bruce’s appointment in 2019.
‘West Brom hierarchy did not support Bilic in summer’
Analysis by Sky Sports expert and former West Brom forward Don Goodman …
“I don’t think the West Brom hierarchy was sufficiently supportive of Slaven Bilic in the summer.
“I understand that there are budgets, but you look at the recruitment … Diangana, Pereira – players who were already in the club; Krovinovic again on loan.”
“Gallagher is a quality player, but he was in the Championship last season. The forward is the most important piece of the puzzle, but Karlan Grant has also been predominantly in the Championship. He has been in great demand for Bilic.”
