Sky Sports broadcaster and reporter Steve Lee dies at 68 as tributes roll in

Legendary Sky Sports broadcaster and reporter Steve Lee has died at the age of 68.

Lee was a familiar face and voice to Sky and BBC Midlands, for whom he covered football and cricket for more than 30 years.

The tributes have come to pay tribute to Lee, father and grandfather, after the tragic news was confirmed by his daughter Rebecca on Monday.

She said on social media: “It is with the heaviest heart I share that we lost our dear dad, Steve Lee, very suddenly on Sunday.

“We are coming to terms with the news and will share the details of the funeral when we can. I love you dad.”

Lee covered soccer and cricket for more than 30 years.

Coventry City said: “We are sorry to hear that Steve Lee, who covered Sky Blues for BBC Midlands and Sky Sports for many years, has sadly passed away.

“Our thoughts and condolences go out to Steve’s family and friends at this sad time.”

Gary Hughes, Sky Sports Director of Soccer, added: “Everyone is shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of Steve, a great friend of Sky Sports.

“Steve was a highly respected reporter within the industry and an informative voice on the Sky Football League coverage.

Lee was a familiar face and voice to Sky Sports and BBC Midlands.

“We will miss him very much. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.”

Lee was also hailed as “excellent” in his profession, having built a reputation as a trusted and well-known reporter in the Midlands.

BBC Midlands said: “It is with great sadness that we learn of the death of our former sports presenter Steve Lee at the age of 68.

“An excellent broadcaster we will sadly miss. Everyone’s thoughts here at BBC Midlands Today are with his family and friends at this time.”
