A pregnant woman had a pillowcase thrown over her head before being repeatedly hit in the stomach during an attack in North London.
The 20-year-old victim, said to be a Jewish woman 27 weeks pregnant, fled the scene but was taken to hospital for treatment for minor injuries after the assault, metropolitan police said.
CCTV footage captured last Thursday night and shared by the Shomrim neighborhood watch group shows the development of the incident. A man dressed in a dark hooded jacket, dark pants and white sneakers approached the woman from behind on Stamford Hill.
He was carrying a shopping cart, which he left a few feet behind him, before moving forward and attempting to put a pillowcase over the woman’s head and then repeatedly hitting her. Then he ran away.

Rabbi Herschel Gluck, president of Shomrim, described the attack as “violent and brutal.” He told reporters that the victim was “deeply traumatized.”
Dave Rich, director of policy for the Community Security Trust, said it was an “extremely distressing attack and that we would advise anyone who knows anything to contact the police.”
Police said investigations were underway to establish whether the attack was racially motivated.
The British Jewish Board of Deputies said: “We are extremely disturbed by the vile attack on a pregnant Jewish woman in Stamford Hill. We hope that the perpetrator will be caught quickly and face justice.
“The face of the attacker was captured on video and we urge anyone who knows his identity to contact the police.”
