Shocking scenes outside Parkhead as fans launch abuse and billboards at Neil Lennon’s protest

Soccer fans hurled insults and one threw a fence at a police van in tense scenes at Celtic Park.

Groups of men clashed with police officers after attempting to storm Parkhead’s main entrance while calling for Neil Lennon to be fired.

Videos emerged of groups led by officers. They broke down fences and then faced a human shield of the police in front of the stadium.

At one point, a man erects a barrier and throws it into a parked police van. Previous videos appeared to show fans tearing down a security fence with police officers present looking to keep angry fans at bay.

Scottish police confirmed that two officers sustained minor injuries while on duty outside the East End stadium.

Superintendent Stevie Dolan, Greater Glasgow Division said: “At around 4.30pm on Sunday 29th November a large number of fans began to gather outside Celtic Park to protest.

“A proper police response was carried out and the group has now dispersed. No arrests have been made, however, two officers suffered minor injuries as a result of the actions of the assembled group. “

A large number of supporters, including the club’s ultras, the Green Brigade, have previously urged the Celtic coach to walk.

A large police presence rushed into Celtic Park after the result with fans currently excluded from Scottish football in the west of Scotland amid the pandemic.

Chants of “Sack the Board” have been heard from hundreds of supporters as pressure mounts on Peter Lawwell and Dermot Desmond to make a decision about the 49-year-old’s future.
