The search for two fishermen missing since their boat sank off the East Sussex coast has been called off.
Two RNLI lifeboats and a helicopter were dispatched on Saturday after the Joanna C sent a distress signal around 6 a.m.
A man was found clinging to a lifebuoy and was pulled out of the water. Authorities continued searching for the other two crew members until 11 p.m.
HM Coastguard confirmed that the search, which resumed at 7.30am Sunday morning, was suspended at 2.30pm.
“Unfortunately, nothing else has been found today,” said a statement.
Units assisting with the search included RNLI lifeboats from Newhaven and Eastbourne, Coast Guard rescue teams from Eastbourne and Birling Gap, and several local fishing boats.
The Joanna C is a 45 foot festoon vessel registered in Brixham. Its last known location was three nautical miles off the coast of Seaford, near Newhaven.
A GoFundMe page created to support the families of the two missing men has so far raised more than £ 3,500.
Donations will go to the Fishermen’s Mission, a charity that provides practical, emotional and financial support to fishermen and their families, which will distribute it to those affected.
Organizer Tony Rowe said on the page: “Our prayers go out to those who are directly involved and to the wider community that has been affected in some way.”
