Nicola Sturgeon will avoid police action despite having to issue a humiliating apology for breaking her own rules on the coronavirus.
Scotland’s Prime Minister said she was ‘kicking herself really hard’ after being photographed standing in a pub chatting with retirees without a face mask.
In a statement to members of the Scottish Parliament at Holyrood yesterday, he admitted that he was wrong and emphasized that the rules ‘apply to me as much as to anyone else’.
When he made his daily reference to his government’s main public health message, which includes covering his face, he said he did so “with an enormous dose of humility.”

She added: ‘I want to make it clear today that regardless of the circumstances, I was wrong. There are no excuses. These rules apply to me just like everyone else, and the rules really matter.
“ I’m kicking myself really hard, possibly more than my worst critic could have. But most importantly, I’ll make sure I don’t let my guard down again. ‘
Following Ms Sturgeon’s public apology, Scottish police said in a statement: ‘We are aware of a photograph of the Prime Minister … in which she was not wearing a face mask at a wake.
The Prime Minister has acknowledged this inadvertent breach, for which she has apologized.
In a statement to members of the Scottish Parliament at Holyrood yesterday, he admitted that he was wrong and emphasized that the rules ‘apply to me as much as to anyone else’.
“We remind everyone of the requirement to wear face covers in closed public places for public health reasons.” He added: “The Scottish Police will not take any further action in relation to this matter.”
Scottish government regulations mean that clients and staff must wear face covers when entering, leaving or moving around hospitality premises.
Anyone who doesn’t follow the rules can face a fine of £ 60 on the spot, which rises to a maximum of £ 960 for repeat offenders.
The photograph of Miss Sturgeon chatting with three elderly women without covering her face was taken at the Stable Bar and Restaurant in Edinburgh after the funeral of a senior government official.
Miss Sturgeon was photographed without a mask as she gazed at the retiree table. He wore a tartan mask and is said to have briefly removed it upon leaving the venue.
