Scottish parents have reacted to Nicola Sturgeon’s announcement that schoolchildren will not repeat the academic year.
Schools are closed for most children until at least mid-February due to concerns about coronavirus levels.
The schedule of closings will be reviewed in the first week of February.
However, at yesterday’s press conference, the Prime Minister addressed rumors that pupils might have to retake their current school year, saying that the Scottish government “had no plans” for that to happen.
She said, “Sturgeon said,” We have no plans at this time to ask youth to repeat a year.
“We continue to look for all the ways we can support young people during a very difficult time. And the SQA, Education Scotland, the Government, of course, keep the whole subject under continuous review.
However, the Prime Minister’s response has been a severe blow to some parents who insist that all children should have the opportunity to repeat the work they lost.
One parent said: “Yes, I feel like Elementary 7 and Elementary 1 have missed a lot to move on and also the introduction to school and high school. I think she will be ready to move up not only academically but also socially.” .
Another mother agreed, saying, “With a p2 missing most of P1 and a P7 now missing most of her senior year in elementary school, I totally agree. However, it must be generalized, as much as I would happily differ to my children. I would not do it to the detriment of them leaving groups of friends or feeling that they are being singled out. “
Another parent said his elementary school-age son is struggling and would benefit from repeating the year. However, other parents called the idea “ridiculous” and said it would be impossible to implement.
