The police officer arrested in connection with Sarah Everard’s disappearance was arrested on suspicion of murder, police said.
The man, who is in his 40s and a serving Metropolitan Police officer, was initially arrested Tuesday night on suspicion of kidnapping at an address in Kent.
He has now been re-arrested on suspicion of murder and a separate indictment of indecent exposure, Met Police said Wednesday.
The Met confirmed that the police officer, who was not on duty at the time of Ms Everard’s disappearance, was working for the force’s diplomatic and parliamentary protection command.
“Their main function was the uniformed patrol functions of diplomatic facilities,” they said.
It is not yet known if the officer was known to 33-year-old Ms. Everard.
Met Assistant Commissioner Nick Ephgrave previously described his arrest as a “serious and significant” development in the look for the 33 year old.
A woman in her 30s, who was arrested on the same property as the officer, is still being held on suspicion of helping a criminal, the force added.
Officers are currently searching properties in south London, one in Deal, Kent and a wooded area in Ashford.
In addition to the searches, the police have also been conducting house-to-house investigations in the Clapham and Brixton areas.
The Met says it has received more than 120 calls from the public and visited 750 homes in the area as part of the investigation.
Marketing Executive Ms Everard disappeared while walking home in Brixton, South London from a friend’s house in Clapham on March 3.
His uncle, Nick Everard, previously told Sky News that his family is “crazy” about his disappearance.
“Things are completely dire,” he said, but added that they were waiting and “waiting for positive news from the police.”
Her family has described her disappearance as “totally out of place” and said her phone was not ringing and WhatsApp messages were not arriving.
Everard left her friend’s property on Leathwaite Road around 9 p.m. last Wednesday before talking to her partner on the phone for about 15 minutes, with the call ending around 9.28 p.m.
The last known sighting of her in Clapham was captured with a doorbell camera.
It showed her walking alone down the A205 Poynders Road from the junction at Cavendish Road, towards Tulse Hill, which is south of Brixton, around 9:30 p.m.
She had not been seen or heard from since.
