Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are interested in investing in Wrexham, the club announced.

Deadpool and Detective Pikachu star Reynolds and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s McElhenney will present their vision of the club to members at a special general meeting.

Members of the fan-owned club have voted overwhelmingly for the talks to continue.

Any potential takeover could lead to a £ 2 million investment in the club, which has been owned by fans since 2011.

A total of 1,223 members of the Wrexham Supporters Trust, more than 95% of those surveyed, voted in favor of the measure and 31 against in a special general meeting on Tuesday.

Ryan Reynolds sent this tweet an hour after the news broke.

Speaking before the names are confirmed, Trust director Spencer Harris said a fan vote on the deal scheme would be expected “in weeks rather than months.”

“All that we are going to commit to, because we are not going to put pressure on ourselves, is that we will conclude the discussions as soon as possible,” Harris told BBC Wales.

“We will come to a position where potential investors present an agreement and the next stage … we would put it in front of the members for a vote whether they want to continue with that agreement or not.”

The members’ approval of the agreement would cause the Trust to relinquish control of the club’s operation.

When asked if the fans would agree to the terms, Harris said: “That’s up to the individual fans. They will need to see what’s on the table and decide which way they want the club to go.”

“But whoever runs the Wrexham football club, or indeed any football club, where he really belongs is in the hearts and minds of his fans and I would hope that whoever runs the club in the future will take that into account.”

Wrexham revealed last week that they had been the subject of a rapprochement to buy the club, describing the people involved as “extremely well known” and “high net worth.”

The Trust-run club added that they would not release the names until they had permission from their members at a Special General Meeting to move forward with acquisition talks.

The deal, which will be detailed to members before a final decision is made, would involve the purchase of the North Wales club for a ‘nominal sum’, but also an immediate investment of £ 2 million in order to move it forward. as a business and as a successful soccer team.

The Trust told SGM members that professional advisers had considered the proposed offer “totally credible” and will now seek a firm proposal.

It wouldn’t be the first time that Hollywood stars have become involved with a Welsh club, as American The Office star Mindy Kaling was revealed as one of the stakeholders in an American consortium that bought a controlling stake in Swansea City in 2016.
