Ryan Giggs will not participate in the next international camp in Wales after being arrested on suspicion of assaulting a woman.
The 46-year-old manager was arrested and later dumped over an alleged dispute with “intermittent girlfriend” Kate Greville at her home. Sun reported the newspaper.
Wales will play the United States in a friendly on 12 November ahead of the Nations League matches against the Republic of Ireland and Finland.
“The Football Association of Wales and Ryan Giggs have mutually agreed that they will not participate in the next international camp,” said a statement from FAW.
“Our immediate priority agreed is to prepare the team for the next international matches.
“Robert Page, supported by Ryan, will take over the next three games against the United States, the Republic of Ireland and Finland with the support of Albert Stuivenberg.”
A statement issued on behalf of Giggs on Tuesday morning read: “Mr. Giggs denies all allegations of assault made against him.
“He is cooperating with the police and will continue to assist them with their ongoing investigations.”
Wales was due to announce their squad on Tuesday morning for all three games, but those plans were shelved on Monday night when news of Giggs’ arrest broke.
“The Cymru team for these upcoming games will be announced on Thursday, November 5,” the FAW said.
“The FAW will not comment further at this time.”
Two police cars were parked outside Giggs’ home in Worsley, Greater Manchester, on Sunday night following reports of a riot involving 36-year-old public relations worker Ms Greville.
In a statement provided to The Sun, Greater Manchester Police said: “Police were called at 10.05pm Sunday to report a disturbance. A woman in her 30s sustained minor injuries but did not require any treatment.”
“A 46-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of section 47 assault and common section 39 assault.”
Police added that the arrested man was later released on bail pending further investigation, the newspaper said.
