Wales manager Ryan Giggs was arrested on suspicion of assaulting his girlfriend, Kate Greville, it was reported Saturday night.

Police attended the Salford home of the 46-year-old former Manchester United winger Sunday night following a reported riot, according to Sun, who claims he was questioned on suspicion of assault and actual bodily injury.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: “The police were called at 22.05 on Sunday to report a disturbance. A woman in her thirties suffered minor injuries but did not require any treatment.

“A 46-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of battery under section 47 and common battery under section 39.”

The spokesman added that the detainee was released on bail pending investigations.

Giggs and his girlfriend went public with their relationship in August 2018, eight months after he divorced his wife Stacey.

Giggs is currently serving as manager of the Wales national team and in a statement the Welsh Federation said: “The FAW is aware of an alleged incident involving the manager of the men’s team Ryan Giggs.

“The FAW will not comment further at this time.”

Wales had planned to name their team for upcoming international matches against the United States, the Republic of Ireland and Finland on Tuesday, but that date was postponed.

Wales kept two clean sheets in their Nations League matches in October’s international break, culminating in a 1-0 win over Bulgaria thanks to a Jonny Williams goal.

Speaking after that game, Giggs said: “We will learn, it is a young team. We are proud of the defensive aspect as a team and the players made a real change.

“I am very satisfied with the result and, in part, I thought we played the best football we have had for a long time.”

Wales will welcome back Aaron Ramsey and Gareth Bale, who are back in shape.
