Steve Bruce could hand Ryan Fraser his Newcastle United debut against Blackburn Rovers in the League Cup this week.
The Scottish international did not take part in a 2-0 win over West Ham United on Saturday night in the capital, but is very much looking forward to going after arriving for free last week.
Fraser declared himself fit at Benton on Wednesday, but Bruce feels he lacks practice for the game and pitching it against the Hammers was a risk.
Bruce, who could rotate his team a bit against the Rovers in the second round of the League Cup at St James’ Park, was asked about Fraser after the victory at London Stadium and said: “Ryan did not he’s been playing since March and he didn’t. ” I will really train until Wednesday.
“He has been kept in remarkable condition, but remember my words, from what I have seen in the few training sessions he has had, he will be a huge favorite with Newcastle fans.”
Bruce watched in West Ham as Callum Wilson and Jeff Hendrick scored debut goals.
He reflected: “Jeff gave us a good balance.
“I’ve been a huge fan of hers for a long time and I was delighted with how brave she was to enlist Callum’s assistance.
“Then he shot one in the top corner, you will remember.
