Roy Keane believes that Kieran Tierney had been suffering from nightmares in the form of Mohamed Salah during Arsenal’s first half against Liverpool.
The fast Egyptian beat the Gunners’ left back inside the area to shoot Bernd Leno. The German could only stop Salah’s shot in the way of Sadio Mane, who pushed the tie home to Liverpool.
Alexandre Lacazette had opened the scoring for Arsenal, but Mane leveled the match before Andrew Robertson put the hosts in front.
Liverpool entered the break leading the Premier League tie and Monday Night Football experts Keane and Jamie Carragher identified Arsenal’s “problematic position”.
“Like any good team, Liverpool responded very quickly,” Keane said.
“Salah has been giving Tierney nightmares and it’s the least they deserve [the equaliser]. The archer should probably do better with the opening shot.
“Tierney had to keep it on the outside and then Leno has to do better.”
Carragher added: “Tierney can’t face Salah on this left side and the second goal comes again from there.
“Maitland-Niles is rising up the field, so Tierney is often in the defensive area. The delivery of Trent Alexander-Arnold has been fantastic and Robertson makes up for his mistake on the other end.
“There is a problem on that left side of Arsenal that they must solve.”
Tierney, 23, arrived from Celtic last summer, but a series of injuries so far has hampered his playing time for the Gunners.
The criticism will no doubt come as a concern for Mikel Arteta, who is looking to increasingly integrate the Scotsman into his plans this season.
