Ross County’s Stuart Kettlewell promised to punish Michael Gardyne if the midfielder said something “nasty” to a Rangers opponent in their 4-0 loss.

Gardyne was booked by referee Joh Beaton for dissenting after a foul on striker Alfredo Morelos in Dingwall.

Rangers players reacted angrily to what was said and manager Steven Gerrard wants County to investigate.

“If there is something unpleasant or against the morale of the club, it will be punished,” said the county manager.

“I know why the referee booked Michael and I heard his reasons for that. It was because of rude and abusive language, that’s how you would put it in parentheses. I am not forgiving if something has been said that is out of place, but we ‘ I’ll have to talk to Michael and see what happened. “

Kettlewell said he knew “the wording that was used” according to the referee, who noted that he was “standing one or two meters away”, and suggested that “there are stories about what has been said.”

Gerrard marched onto the Global Energy Stadium field to confront Beaton while blowing the whistle for interval, but admitted he only knew what was allegedly being said by hearing it secondhand.

“I only heard what my players were saying, what they heard,” he said. “That was not good, that’s what I can say.

“This is a situation that Ross County, Stuart Kettlewell and officials have to deal with, but what my players say they heard shouldn’t be heard on a football field.”
