A London mother seeks help to find her son, who has been missing for more than a week.
19-year-old student Richard Okorogheye, who has sickle cell anemia, said he was “struggling to cope” with pressures from the university and had been protecting himself during the lockdown, according to his mother, Evidence Joel.
Metropolitan Police said officers were increasingly concerned about the teenager believed to have left his family’s home in the Ladbroke Grove area of West London on March 22. His disappearance was reported on March 24.
Joel told the MyLondon website: “Richard has never done anything like this. Something went wrong. “She was only leaving the house to go to the hospital to receive regular blood transfusions for her condition.
Joel recalled him saying he was going to visit a friend, although none of them had seen him, telling him to drive carefully and “see me later,” he told the website.
She came home from a nursing shift around 9pm and assumed he was in her room. She made him a meal, but found he wasn’t there when he knocked on her door and didn’t answer the phone.
The alarm was raised after a locksmith helped her into the room that was empty, but Richard’s wallet, bus pass and bank card were left behind.
The teenager was last seen leaving his home and heading in the direction of Ladbroke Grove, west of London, on March 22 at around 8:30 pm, police said. Officers added that he was known to frequent the Westminster and Hammersmith and Fulham areas of London.
Chief Inspector Clare McCarthy of the Met’s West Center Command Unit said: “Our officers have been working tirelessly to locate Richard, utilizing all investigative opportunities and data inquiries, speaking with witnesses and tracking CCTV.
“We are following all possible leads and we are asking the public to help us in our work.
“If you could have seen Richard, please contact the police. If Richard is safe and sound, we ask that he contact us urgently so that we can reassure his family. “
