Liverpool forward Rhian Brewster will sign for Sheffield United on a record deal worth £ 23.5 million.
The England Under-21 international package includes a three-year buyback option and the Reds will get 15% of any sales fee.
Brewster, 20, helped England win the U-17 World Cup in 2017 and scored 11 goals in 22 appearances while on loan at Swansea City last season.
The Blades have yet to score in three Premier League games this season.
Several high-level English clubs, including Aston Villa, Brighton, Burnley, Crystal Palace, Fulham and Newcastle United, had asked about Brewster’s loan.
He won the Golden Boot with eight goals at the U-17 World Cup, playing for an England team alongside Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden and Borussia Dortmund forward Jadon Sancho.
“I cannot confirm that everything is done, but we have been in negotiations with Liverpool for a while and discussions between the player and the club are still ongoing,” Blades manager Chris Wilder said Friday.
“There is nothing to announce at the moment, but we are on the line.
“It is an area that we must improve and that is not disrespectful to the forwards we already have here. We need competition in the group.”
Brewster has recovered after sustaining a serious ankle injury in January 2018 that ruled him out for the remainder of that season.
The forward has made four appearances for Liverpool, three in 2019-20 cup competitions and one as a substitute in a penalty shootout loss to Arsenal in this season’s Community Shield.
Sheffield United’s previous record signing was for the £ 22m they paid Norwegian midfielder Sander Berge from the Belgian Genk in January.
Blades forward Lys Mousset is injured, while Oli Burke has yet to come off the mark since he arrived as part of a trade with Callum Robinson, who has scored twice for this new West Brom team this season.
David McGoldrick is seen as a linked player and only scored twice in the Premier League last season.
Wilder’s team, which is ranked 19th in the Premier League, has a difficult streak of upcoming matches. They travel to Arsenal on the Sunday before a trip to champion Liverpool on October 24 and then host Manchester City a week later.
