TThe virus crisis has disillusioned Londoners with city life more than people in other major European centers, new research suggests.
A survey of more than 5,000 residents in London, Paris, Madrid, Berlin and Milan by the engineering firm Arup showed that half of those surveyed in the UK capital complained that amenities were too far away.
The Arup survey was based on the concept that city dwellers enjoy a better quality of life when essential facilities are within a 15-minute walk or bike ride from their home.
Londoners are further from this ideal, living on average 23 minutes on foot or by bike from essential services such as parks, grocery stores, schools, medical facilities, leisure centers, gyms and cafes, according to the report. .
Arup said the distance was only 13 minutes in Madrid and Milan and around 16 minutes in Berlin and Paris.
Londoners also have to travel further to reach a park, field or playing area, compared to their European counterparts, the study indicated.
Three out of five Londoners questioned said they have considered leaving the capital due to Covid-19, more than Paris (41%), Milan (39%), Madrid (37%) and Berlin (30%), Arup said.
