Like Donny van de Beek’s reports, Manchester United’s ties to Sergio Reguilon seemingly came out of nowhere.
According to the Manchester Evening News, United are interested in the left back, and given their performances last season, that’s no surprise.
With Luke Shaw currently on the sidelines and Brandon Williams a raw talent, bringing in a player of Reguilon’s quality makes sense. Especially when you consider that it would only cost around £ 22 million (Brand).
While the strength in depth in the winger positions would help United keep going, there is another reason not previously mentioned why Reguilon could be a great addition to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team.
There are doubts about the defensive gift of the Spanish, but his offensive quality is considerable. To such an extent that Reguilon could be a sensible alternative on the left wing when Marcus Rashford is rested.
The English international played too much last season.
It is a testament to his work ethic and mindset that Rashford played through injury on more than one occasion. However, his form suffered as a result.
Giving Rashford regular breaks will ensure that he can continue his excellent goal-scoring form at United. The problem is that Solskjaer’s options on the left are few and far between.
Dan James could finally move there but, for now, the Welshman is seen as a right-sided option. Reguilon step forward.
A surprise left option
United could get two for one if they sign the Spaniard with a £ 22 million rating.
While they would have one of the most exciting left-backs in Europe, they would also have a 23-year-old who loves to bomb forward.
With United asking for more in the last third of their wings, Reguilon’s style would be a storm.
Three goals and five assists during his assignment at Sevilla say it all. Like his best moments, with United’s supposed goal flying forward at every opportunity.
Some United fans feel that Reguilon is an unnecessary expense, and yet given his price, his age and his versatility, he could be one of the smartest moves of the summer if accomplished.
United’s reported goal wouldn’t be the first left back to become a winger. In fact, some recent examples, like Ryan Sessegnon and Gareth Bale, were hyped for moves to Old Trafford in the past.
Could this be the third time for a United team that knows a thing or two about extreme explosives from the past?
