Lozano’s goal at 16 minutes ensured Cádiz’s first away victory over Real Madrid in La Liga

The newly promoted Cádiz astonished Real Madrid with a well-deserved victory that places them at the top of the League with the reigning champions.

Anthony Lozano’s clever finish in the first half gave the visitors their first win against Real in nearly 30 years.

Zinedine Zidane’s team dominated possession, but only managed two shots on goal against a tough Cádiz.

Luka Jovic had the ball in the net, but Karim Benzema had deflected from a Marcelo cross before the play.

Benzema hit the crossbar with a fierce effort from outside the area with 10 minutes remaining, but the hosts were unable to extend their 15-game unbeaten streak in the competition.

Cádiz, however, continued with the beginning of his dreams after returning to the Spanish top flight for the first time in 14 years this season.

Lozano slashed the ball over goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois from the assist of Álvaro Negredo after 16 minutes to score which turned out to be the winner.

Negredo headed wide in the first half and the 35-year-old had another shot cleared off the line by Sergio Ramos, who then had to be replaced due to injury.

Cádiz, runners-up for Huesca last season, had a chance for a second after half an hour when José Mari found Lozano and Courtois rejected his low shot at the near post.

Real Madrid pushed for a draw at the end, but the visitors were able to endure their first victory against their opponents in La Liga since March 1991.

Zidane’s team must now regroup for their first Champions League game against Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday, before visiting Barcelona on Saturday.
