ON-LOAN Rangers goalkeeper Robby McCrorie and an anonymous Aberdeen star tested positive for coronavirus after an international serve with the Scotland Under-21 team.
It means, of course, that the pair will now play in their club matches this weekend, with McCrorie ruled out of the Premiership clash against St Mirren and the Dons star will be unable to face Rangers on Sunday.
Both players are now isolating themselves, and the young man from Aberdeen is also ruled out of the Dons’ trip to face Hamilton in the league on Wednesday.
Three Dons stars were on the team that traveled to Greece to represent the U21s midweek, although one of them, Robby’s brother Ross, would not be eligible to play against his parent club in Ibrox on Sunday in any case.
The others are Lewis Ferguson and Connor McLennan, and losing any of their stars will be another bitter blow for an Aberdeen coach, Derek McInnes, who is already losing five first-team players for the big game in Govan.
Livi’s goalkeeper McCrorie has not played for the Lions since a 3-1 loss to Kilmarnock last month.
But it leaves Gary Holt with only Max Stryjek and veteran Gary Maley as options between the sticks for the match with Paisley’s side.
Meanwhile, Aberdeen defender Ash Taylor insists he is ready to take on the role of Scott McKenna if Alfredo Morelos decides to play for the Dons at Ibrox on Sunday.
The former Dons defender McKenna was involved in several troubles with the Rangers’ Colombian hit man before winning a move to Nottingham Forest earlier this season.
BANK IT Rangers must cover the £ 23 million shortfall by the end of next season as they acknowledge concerns about ‘material uncertainty’
He admitted that he was “killed” and that had benefited his team on several occasions.
The pair met in a Premiership game two years ago, with the Rangers forward receiving a red card after kicking his Reds foe.
Both men then headed to an early bathroom again after another ugly collision in their next showdown with Pittodrie a few months later.
But even when he doesn’t get into trouble, nothing loves Morelos more than going toe-to-toe with his direct opponents in a physical fight.
And with McKenna now plying his trade south of the border at City Ground, Taylor says he’s ready to step into the gap, as he vowed to take on Morelos when Aberdeen visits Govan on Sunday.
“I enjoy those kinds of battles,” said the central England. “We defenders love that physical side of the game and I’m certainly a great kid.
“So I’ll give whatever I get, if not more.”
