Rangers fans kicked off their title party in Ibrox when they gathered outside the stadium and set off fireworks.

Hundreds of fans lined up outside the stadium’s main gate on Edmiston Drive with blue smoke engulfing the area as they celebrated.

There appeared to be little social distancing among the fans, but many of them were photographed wearing masks as they sought to celebrate the club’s first league title in a decade.

They still need four points to secure it, but they could win it this weekend if the Rangers win and Celtic lose points on Sunday.

Steven Gerrard was asked about the possibility of fans having a title party off the club’s field at his pre-game press conference on Friday and urged them to stay safe.

He insisted it was out of his control, but said it was up to others to take care of it, rather than him as the club boss.

He said: “We all have to keep trying to comply with government rules and respect social distancing and things like that.

“But at the same time, it’s out of my control and that’s when you have to let the security experts and the highest level people in the club that I handle these situations.

“I know there are a lot of rumors, but my job is to focus on the game and try to score three points. That is the priority for me. People have to understand where our fans are and what they have been through, and the priority is that they stay safe. “
