The Queen and Prince Charles have been photographed enjoying a walk together in Windsor before Easter.

The 94-year-old monarch and her eldest son had a great time together as they strolled among the daffodils and cherry blossoms in the garden of Frogmore House, a royal residence about 800 meters south of Windsor Castle.

Photos of the couple were taken on March 23, a week after Prince Philip returned to the castle from spending a month in the hospital, but they were only discharged on Good Friday.

The queen and Carlos, both wrapped in coats, were photographed smiling and laughing as they crossed a small picturesque bridge over a stream in the gardens.

The monarch was last seen on Wednesday when she gave first public appearance in person of the year to mark the centenary of the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) in Runnymede, Surrey.

He has been carrying out his engagements via video link since the third lockdown was imposed earlier in the year, and has rarely left the grounds of Windsor Castle since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic last year.

Meanwhile, Charles has recorded a verse by Catholic priest and poet Gerard Manley Hopkins, Clarence House said.

His narration of Hopkins’ poem The Greatness of God will be performed during a virtual service Sunday morning at Stonyhurst College, a Catholic boarding school in Lancashire where the Victorian clergyman taught.

Clarence House said in a statement: “The Prince of Wales has recorded Gerard Manley Hopkins’ poem, The Greatness of God, to show his support for Christians around the world at Easter.

“Easter is the most important festival in the Christian Church, celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ on the third day after his crucifixion, and Hopkins’ poem captures the hope and joy associated with that season.”

The poem begins with the verses: “The world is loaded with the greatness of God.

“It will fade, like the glow of shaken aluminum foil; it will accumulate into greatness, like the ooze of crushed oil.”

Hopkins stopped writing poetry after deciding to become a priest, but later took it up again to write a long poem in memory of five nuns who died in a shipwreck.

His poems were not published in their entirety until 1918, nearly 30 years after his death, and his use of language, new rhythmic effects, and unusual word combinations influenced later greats, including Dylan Thomas and WH Auden.
