The rift between princes William and Harry is “worse than anyone thinks,” claimed a royal biographer behind an explosive new book.

Robert Lacey, whose experience earned him a consultant role on the Netflix show The Crown, has written a new book detailing the rift that has shaken the Palace.

Titled Battle Of Brothers, the book also details how the Windsors treated Harry’s wife Meghan Markle “horribly”.

Robert, who spoke to “countless” insiders, believes the seismic divide between the brothers will sit alongside some of the biggest scandals in real history.

Harry now lives with his wife and young son Archie in Los Angeles after sensationally leaving the palace.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, he says the relationship between Harry and heir to the throne William is crucial to the future of ‘The Firm’.

He said: “If this gap between the brothers is not cured in some way, it will come to rank with the crisis of abdication and Diana’s death as one of the traumas that changed the monarchy.”

The author, who wrote a “definitive” biography of the Queen in the 1970s titled “Majesty”, believes that there is time to heal the gap, but that the palace “is not working in that direction.”

And he makes no effort when he talks about the Windsors’ treatment of Meghan, the American actress who married Harry in 2018.

Robert believes that while the Hollywood star is “tough” and has an “incredible and dangerous level of self-confidence,” royalty should have treated her better.

He said: “There is only one self-made millionaire in the Royal Family and that is Meghan Markle.

“If they had sat down with her at first and said, ‘Let’s talk about the things that interest you,’ things could have been different.”

He adds, “She was never going to be routine royalty.”

The royal biographer says he sees parallels between Meghan and Harry’s mother, Princess Diana, whom he describes as “anti-royal.”

This comes as the two princes are said to “cut off contact for two months” after Harry moved to America with Meghan.

The book, due out on October 15, comes as the Sussexes reportedly agreed to be filmed for a reality series.

It was initially thought that the £ 112 million deal with Netflix would only see them working behind the camera, but a source said Meghan wants the world to see the ‘real her’.

Since then, the couple have denied the allegations, with a statement saying today that they “will not participate” in any reality shows.
