PRINCE Charles will avoid the latest series of The Crown, which describes the breakdown of his marriage to Diana, and has told his friends: “I’ve never seen him.”
Netflix released the fourth ten-episode installment of the real-life drama yesterday amid claims that it presented “fiction as fact” and amounted to “hitting a Hollywood budget.”
The dispute over the series, which also details Diana’s seating disorder and Charles’s affair with Camilla, comes amid controversy over Harry and Meghan’s £ 112 million deal with the streaming giant.
It came when Harry was criticized for going to BBC1’s Strictly show on Saturday in a video call to his friend, contestant JJ Chalmers, just days after the BBC began investigating revelations that Martin Bashir used fake bank statements to persuade him. Diana from doing an interview in 1995.
A source close to Charles, 72, told The Crown: “His Royal Highness has absolutely no opinion on this. He has never seen The Crown. I shouldn’t think that he knows she’s dating. ”
One insider described The Crown as “commercial drama and entertainment. . . without taking into account the people involved who are being kidnapped and exploited in their lives ”.
They said the series paints Charles, played by Josh O’Connor, in “a very unflattering light.”
The source said: “The public should not be misled into believing that this is an accurate description. This is trolling on a Hollywood budget. “
The source also said that Prince William felt he was presenting his parents in a “false and simplistic way.”
Writer Peter Morgan says he discussed the stories with high-ranking members of the royal family. Buckingham Palace has denied participation.
