Donald trump He has tweeted to say that he “feels fine” thanks to the doctors who treated him for coronavirus at the hospital, but a White House source suggested that the US president’s situation is dire.
His physician, Dr. Sean Conley, revealed that the president is “very well” after being transferred to the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center near the White House.
The president’s medical team said they are “extremely happy” with his progress and that many of his coronavirus symptoms, which include cough and nasal congestion, “are now resolving and improving.”
At a press conference outside the hospital, Trump’s medical team revealed that he is “in a very good mood” and has been fever-free for more than 24 hours.
After the update, Trump tweeted: “The doctors, nurses and EVERYONE at GREAT Walter Reed Medical Center, and others from equally amazing institutions that have joined them, are AMAZING! Tremendous progress has been made in the last 6 months in fighting this PLAGUE. With your help, I feel good! “
But a White House source told reporters that the president’s vital signs over the past 24 hours had caused great concern, adding that the next 24 hours would be “critical” for Trump.
At the press conference, it was revealed that Trump told doctors Saturday morning that he felt “he could get out of here today.”
Amid repeated questioning, Navy Commander Dr. Conley was reluctant to confirm whether the president had needed oxygen treatment, but said he is currently not receiving help with breathing.
It was later revealed, according to an Associated Press source, that Trump was administered supplemental oxygen at the White House on Friday before going to the hospital.
Trump was airlifted to the hospital “as a precaution” on Friday and is expected to stay there for “a few days,” but his doctor suggested he might leave soon.
Dr. Conley said the president, who is being treated with Remdesivir, will be allowed to return to the White House soon if the drug can be withdrawn.
“He’s awake and active and he’s able to handle it,” the doctor said.
First lady Melania Trump also tested positive and has a “mild cough and headache,” according to the doctor, but the rest of the first family, including her son Barron, who lives in the White House, tested negative.
The president of the United States gave reporters a thumbs up as he left the White House and was airlifted to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on Friday.
The White House said Trump is expected to stay “a few days” in the hospital as a precautionary measure and that he will continue to work from the presidential suite of the hospital.
Upon his arrival at the hospital, Trump tweeted: “It’s going well I think! Thank you all. LOVE !!!”
Before his departure from the White House, he posted a pre-recorded video thanking “everyone for the tremendous support.”
He said, “I’m going to Walter Reed Hospital. I think I’m doing very well, but we’re going to make sure everything goes well.”
“The first lady is doing very well, so thank you very much I appreciate it, I will never forget it.”
Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany said: “President Trump remains in good spirits, has mild symptoms, and has been working all day.
“As a precaution and on the recommendation of his physician and medical experts, the president will work from the presidential offices in Walter Reed for the next few days.”
In response to the news, Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden tweeted: “This cannot be a partisan moment. It must be an American moment. We have to unite as a nation.”
Boris Johnson wished the president a full recovery and told reporters that he had spoken with members of the Trump family.
He said: “I think obviously everyone wishes him and Melania the best and hopes they will recover quickly and I have no doubt that he will, he will recover very well.”
When asked if he had any advice for Trump, Johnson said: “I think he will do exactly what the doctors tell him to do and I am confident that he will receive the best possible care.”
He added: “I’m sure he will get through it very well.”
The president’s doctor said in a memo that Trump received a dose of an experimental antibody combination from Regeneron that is in clinical trials.
Navy commander Dr. Conley said Trump “remains fatigued but in good spirits” and that a team of experts was evaluating both the president and the first lady regarding next steps.
On Friday night, Conley issued an update saying that Trump “is fine” and “does not require supplemental oxygen,” but said that “in consultation with specialists we have chosen to initiate therapy with Remdesivir,” an antiviral drug.
“You have completed your first dose and are resting comfortably,” the doctor wrote.
Mr. Trump is He is 74 years old and overweight, putting him at higher risk for serious complications from the virus..
