Possible formation change for Southampton with Ings in the starting eleven to face Chelsea

Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl may have changed formation ahead of Double Gameweek 25.

With Kyle-Walker Peters (£ 4.7m) sidelined by the Saints due to a hamstring injury sustained at Gameweek 24, the Austrian does not have a senior right back.

The solution appears to be a back three, which was briefly tested in that GW24 loss to the Wolves when Mohammed Salisu (£ 4.3m) replaced Walker-Peters after 72 minutes.

Hasenhuttl hinted at a form change in the embargoed section of his pregame press conference on Thursday.

“If you don’t have players in a position, it’s always an option to think about a form change. This is not something that is too difficult to change quickly, especially when you’ve had a week to prepare. “- Ralph Hasenhuttl

The possible line-up change would also pair Southampton with Thomas Tuchel’s wing system.

More than 600,000 new owners of Danny Ings (£ 8.5m) will expect immediate returns, regardless of how the Saints do. Hasenhuttl’s men will also face Leeds on Tuesday in the second installment of their Double Gameweek 25.

There were also some investments in Jannik Vestergaard (£ 4.7 million), which could be in the middle of those last three James Ward-Prowse (£ 6.0m), with both players starting.

It is also possible that Hasenhuttl’s preferred 4-2-2-2 formation, which could be seen Jan Bednarek (£ 4.9m) trade on the right side.

Che adams (£ 5.8 million) is back in bank service, while Stuart armstrong (£ 5.5 million) is not part of the squad for the day. When asked by BT if the Scottish midfielder is injured, Hasenhuttl replied:

Yes, a slight wound. Hopefully it’s not too much. Again, he was sanctioned after two games in three days. A little [of an] problem with your muscle.

On Thursday, the Southampton manager had said about the club’s injury situation:

Kyle Walker-Peters is another who is definitely out of the game, maybe for a few weeks. I hope there is no one else [out apart from Walker-Peters, Theo Walcott and Ibrahima Diallo].

Tuchel, meanwhile, continues to maintain faith in Marcos Alonso (£ 5.7 million) on the left wing as Ben chilwell (£ 5.8 million) is benched for the fourth time in five weeks of play.

Kurt zouma (£ 5.4m) earns a rare start along with Antonio Rudiger (£ 4.6 million) and César Azpilicueta (£ 5.7 million), while Reece james (£ 5.0m) is back at right-back after missing Gameweek 24’s starting XI.

N’Golo Kante (£ 4.9m) is preferable to first-choice penalty taker Jorginho (£ 4.7 million) in midfield.

“Right now we have three strong midfielders with [Mateo] Kovacic, Jorginho and Kante, that I am absolutely happy [with].

“They are, right now, the core of our game and the core of our team with quality, mindset, organization and structure. I want to have a minimum of two of them in the field ”. – Thomas Tuchel

Mason Mount (£ 6.8 million) and Timo Werner (£ 9.2m) will roll behind the forward Tammy Abraham (£ 7.2m), which beats a hit to start.

Edouard mendy (£ 5.1 million) is also back in the midst of Chelsea. Tuchel stated this week that the Senegal goalkeeper remains the first choice before Kepa Arrizabalaga (£ 4.7 million), who started the 2-0 win against Newcastle at GW24.

Southampton XI (3-4-1-2): McCarthy; Salisu, Vestergaard, Bednarek; Bertrand, Romeu, Ward-Prowse, Djenepo; Minamino; Ings, Redmond.

Chelsea XI (3-4-2-1): Mendy; Zouma, Rudiger, Azpilicueta; Alonso, Kante, Kovacic, Reece James; Werner, Mount; Abraham.
