The winner of a house being raffled in the Midlands has been revealed today, and he is a heroic key worker.

The property, located in Shropshire, was won by Alison Bellamy, a Telford woman.

The raffled property was awarded to Alison, who received a phone call from the organizers informing her of the brilliant news at lunchtime Thursday.

Alison, 49, revealed during her phone call with organizers that she was actually a West Mercia Police worker who was on the front line during the Covid-19 crisis.

And she was on duty while the announcement was made, with social media flooded with comments as the disclosure was made live on Facebook.

“Wow, great news,” replied a social media user, with a second comment: “Great! Congratulations Alison.”

Another admitted that they were “crying”.

And another wrote: “How fabulous! A key worker to boot! Incredible. A winner so deserved. Absolutely the best result!”

Homeowners Nigel and Jane Chaloner, who want to raise funds to support Severn Hospice’s work, raffled the impressive six-bedroom cottage, after they were both infected with coronavirus.

The generous couple raffled their house, Grafton Farm, Shropshire, located less than an hour from Birmingham, in a £ 2 draw per ticket.

The idyllic Grade II property comes fully furnished, complete with an outdoor hot tub, fitness center, lawn mower, and approximately three acres of land.

The fundraising couple has raised their own family and 22 foster children on the farm in the past 18 years.

But when the couple started marketing their home to sell, they were both shot down by COVID-19, so they decided to raise up to £ 100,000 for the hospice.

They plan to reduce their size after retiring later this year.

Norma Ross, director of revenue generation at Severn Hospice, previously said: “Many thanks to Nigel and Sarah Jane for their incredibly generous offer. Support like yours allows us to care for people with incurable diseases in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and Mid Wales.

“In the current COVID-19 crisis climate, this type of support is really valuable to us as we have lost some of our most vital sources of income.

“People can support us from their sofas by participating in the raffle and at the same time having the opportunity to win a beautiful fully furnished country house. We wish everyone the best of luck with the competition.”
