What the school said

In a letter, Mr. Coles said: ” Dear Parents and Caregivers:

“As you probably know, one of our buses crashed this afternoon after leaving school. There were 37 students on the bus.

“All the students are unharmed and have now been picked up by their parents and caregivers and will be safe at home. The 37 youths acted calmly and maturely despite how shocked they were by the incident. Police and paramedics quickly arrived at site and received support from on-site staff with handling the situation and taking details.

“In addition to paying tribute to our wonderful students, including friends who helped on the scene, I would like to thank the staff at Coombeshead Academy and Newton Abbot College. They all worked together to support the children who had been on the bus, reflecting the strength of our community.

“I also think the bus driver is unharmed.

“In the morning (Friday), I will gather the students involved in the accident, in year group bubbles, and we will make the support of counseling available to those who need it.

“Thank you for your support this afternoon in responding to your children’s calls. Your reassurance and support at school were, as always, greatly appreciated.

“If you have any concerns, please feel free to contact me at the school at [email protected].

“All good wishes.

“Robert Coles.Director.”
