A new order giving police greater powers to detain and search men between the ages of 16 and 40 is now in effect in an entire district where a teenager was shot and killed.

Nyle Corrigan was killed Thursday night outside houses in Boode Croft, Stockbridge Village, in a murder “directed in cold blood.”

Paramedics desperately tried to save his life but their efforts were in vain.

Now, the police have effectively established a Section 60 dispersal order throughout Stockbridge Village, which began today at 3pm.

It will run until 5 in the morning tomorrow.

The Article 60 order, under the 1994 Law on Criminal Justice and Public Order, gives police officers greater powers than normal.

The improved rules allow them to detain men ages 16 to 40 and are designed to minimize serious violence in the area.

The area is bounded at the bottom by Princess Drive, then runs along Seth Powell Way and the M57, then down to Deysbrook Lane before meeting again at Princess Drive.

The authorization includes the roads on the boundary and the area and land within it.

A mobile police station has been established in Boode Croft and high visibility patrols remain in the area.

Knowsley Community Watch Superintendent Jennifer Wilson said: “Fortunately, tragic incidents like the murder of this young man are extremely rare.

“Our officers have made an arrest and will leave no stone unturned in our pursuit of anyone involved in this incident, or anyone prepared to endanger the lives of others by bearing arms on Merseyside.

“This Section 60 order was introduced to give us more power to detain people in an effort to prevent further violence.

“We regularly patrol Stockbridge Village, and I want to assure the people who live there that they will see our officers in force in the coming days, both in uniform and in plain clothes.

“They are not there to annoy the responsible people who run their business and if you see us on the street or see the mobile police station, come say hi and if you have any information or concerns please share it with us.

“We are here to listen and we want what everyone in the community wants: to make sure they can live and work in an environment free of criminals who bring violence to the streets.

“If you tell us about this incident or any other crime, we will take appropriate action.”

Detectives arrested a 33-year-old man from Huyton on suspicion of murder and will be questioned by officers.

Police believe the murder had all the hallmarks of a deliberate execution and described the murder as a “cold-blooded attack on a residential street.”

They added: “The people responsible for this attack knew exactly what they were doing and need to be caught.”
