The main street in front of the Ormskirk hospital was closed by the police after a serious accident.
Emergency services were called to Wigan Road shortly after 4 p.m. to receive reports of accidents involving more than one vehicle.
Road closures were quickly implemented in the area before officers began diverting traffic from the scene.
The area is closed from Dicconson Way to Castle Lane and the closures are expected to remain in place for several hours.
