A dramatic chase last night on the M57 motorway ended with a damaged police car and four men escaping on foot.

A witness reported seeing about 10 cars in pursuit, which ended in a collision in a row of stores in Kirkby.

The incident began shortly after 9 p.m. yesterday (Monday, October 26) when officers attempted to stop a Nissan Qashqai traveling north on the M57.

When the vehicle failed to stop, Cheshire Police officers, supported by colleagues from Merseyside, pursued the vehicle as it traveled towards Kirkby, where four men abandoned the car and fled the area on foot.

Witnesses reported a “huge car chase” on the Southdene estate.

An armed police car was one of the vehicles involved in the accident and was later removed from the scene on Broad Lane by a recovery truck.

The incident prompted a significant response from the emergency services.

A second car, believed to be an undercover police vehicle, was also recovered from the scene with significant damage to its front end.

A police helicopter was tracking the scene from above moments before the collision.

A Cheshire Police spokesman said: “Officers attempted to stop a Nissan Qasqhai traveling north on the M57.

“The vehicle did not stop, so Cheshire police officers, supported by colleagues from Merseyside, chased the vehicle as it traveled towards Kirkby, where four men abandoned the car and fled the area on foot.
