Piers Morgan has been at the forefront of government accountability for its management of the coronavirus crisis.
So the 55-year-old Good Morning Britain host was not overly amiable by accusations that he has been circumventing patterns of social estrangement.
Right-wing website Guido Fawkes called Piers “Britain’s biggest hypocrite” and shared a series of photos of the journalist approaching his co-stars.
He criticized the website for “making a wrong date” in an angry tweet in response to his blog post.
In a photo shared on his Instagram account on March 10, Piers said his fans “did not receive the social distance memo” when one wrapped his arms around his neck to take a selfie on his phone.
“My fans don’t seem to have received the social distance memo,” he captioned it.
Another snap of the same date showed him sitting just inches from his GMB co-host Susanna Reid as he touched her with a fake arm.
Piers wrote in the caption: “Distance yourself.”
The last photo showed him with his arm wrapped around Susanna and Lorraine Kelly.
“Beauty and the beasts,” Piers joked.
Guido Fawkes had published a post every time Piers had allegedly broken the rules of social estrangement.
He replied, “Why was I a hypocrite? @WHO declared COVID-19 a global pandemic on March 11.
“From that point on I stopped attending mass meetings and repeatedly questioned the government’s refusal to ban mass meetings.”
Sharing the three photos, the blog replied, “Has anyone hacked your account? Is he a @piersmorgan impersonator on the photos? Or is he Britain’s biggest hypocrite?”
But Piers noted that they had all been taken before the government put the country under lock and key.
Piers said: “Chaps, you’ve really dropped the ball here. These photos were taken BEFORE @WHO declared #coronavirus a global pandemic.
“I started challenging the government in mass meetings from that moment (March 11). So there is no hypocrisy, you are just making your appointments wrong.”
