Piers Morgan targeted Matt Hancock after the deputy denied saying he was “following the science” during the coronavirus pandemic.
Good Morning Britain also went on to play a collection of clips of the Secretary of Health saying the same thing during interviews and press conferences.
This week, the deputy has appeared in front of a joint scientific selection committee, with Jeremy Hunt, the president and former secretary of Health, and asked if he had always followed science.
He had replied, “I prefer to say that we are always guided by science.”
However, Hunt had replied, “But you used to say you followed science.”
To which Hancock had complained: “I was just being conversational on those occasions.”
An outraged Piers exclaimed after watching the clip of the exchange: “Sorry what ?! And was it colloquialism ?!
“Let me remind you, Mr. Hancock, that you said repeatedly, as did the prime minister and all the cabinet ministers for months, that you were following science. In other words, you were doing what science told you to do. You were not being guided by science, that’s what we said you should be doing.
“We were saying that you should listen to the advice of the experts and make decisions, that’s what we they were saying, not you.
“Let us remind you, given this chronic amnesia, which seems to have flared. This is what he said in his own words.”
After sharing several clips of Hancock repeatedly saying he was “following the science,” Piers asked, “What part of it don’t you remember? Or was it all colloquialisms?
“Colloquialisms, what a convenient word. Are you preparing for the investigation?”
