A fire in Arbury, Cambridge, left a person in the hospital after emergency services responded to a fire at Kingsway Flats this afternoon (May 10).

One person was rescued from the building by firefighters using a ladder, while four other people who were evacuated were treated by ambulance teams at the scene.

No serious injuries have been reported and the person sent to the hospital was performed as a precaution, a fire and rescue spokesman said.

Initially, firefighters were called to the Kingsway Flats in Arbury around 3:43 p.m. this afternoon and 40 firefighters joined them, as well as paramedics and police.

Group Commander Paul Clarke led the response to the fire at the scene and confirmed that the casualties were not serious.

Witnesses living in the area captured the dramatic scene with thick smoke and a burned floor as firefighters battled the fire.

The fire was extinguished at least at 5.30 p.m. and the floor is “severely damaged,” with smoke damage to other parts of the building, a fire and rescue spokesman said.

Police closed the roads around the scene after the incident began near Carlton Way in Arbury.
