Pepijn Lijnders believes that the “best backup plan” in Liverpool is to use the talent of their academy.
The assistant coach has seen Jurgen Klopp suffer several serious injuries with Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez out for the long haul and Thiago Alcantara is also expected to be out of the game until the New Year.
But Lijnders is excited by the appearance of several young men, including Curtis Jones, Neco Williams, Caoimhin Kelleher and Rhys Williams.
And he believes Liverpool could keep their nerves in the January transfer window because of the faith they have in those prospects and others entering the ranks.
Lijnders said: “Devastating moments create life-changing moments for other players because we have a lot of faith in our young blood, in the players we raise, our own players.

“These moments when you lose an elite player automatically create a great opportunity for a young player, because we invest a lot of time and we have a great commitment to them to be part of our squad.
“What I’m trying to say is: I feel like the best backup plan really is the academy.
“If the academy is right and there is a fluid process between the academy and the first team, the best backup plan is always the young players because they will never let you down, never, never. And that’s what you saw.”
