Pep Guardiola makes admission to Manchester United while analyzing the race for the Premier League title

Pep Guardiola insists he does not lose sleep over Manchester United’s emergence as a force in the Premier League.

But as he heads to Chelsea on Sunday in hopes of closing the gap with his city rivals, the City manager admits it could finally be ‘the game’ with the two Manchester giants set to battle Liverpool for the title of the Premier League.

City continued their journey to Chelsea with the short trip to Old Trafford on Wednesday for a one-time draw in the Carabao Cup semi-finals with United.

But it is the prospect of a title battle with United, now firmly in the race, that will ultimately capture Guardiola’s imagination and the Spaniard will admit that it has been a long time coming.

Guardiola affirms that United “deserves” to be in the race for the title

“I’m pretty sure Ole is happier than I am, but I’m not too concerned about United,” said Guardiola, whose City has two games in hand over the stars Liverpool and Solskjaer. “If United are there, it is because they deserve it.

“Before landing here, people said that the real Premier League is where everyone can lose to everyone. I didn’t see it until now.

“Now is the first time that I see that a team can lose or win by seven after that draw. The results are unpredictable. “

City, which lost five players to the covid outbreak at their training ground, are keen to inflict further misery on a stuttering Chelsea with just one win in their last five league matches.

Frank Lampard was a big summer spender, but his Blues have struggled to find consistency in recent weeks.

However, Guardiola believes that Lampard is the right man to lead Chelsea after having broken so many records as a player at Stamford Bridge. “It sure is special for him,” added the former Barcelona coach.

“I think more than ever he wants to do well, but football is a difficult business. However, he is an excellent coach and one of the best players.

“Like Carlo Ancelotti, who is a legend to me and one of the people I admire the most, Frank is also an incredible person.

“You train where you were a child, you won everything there, it’s special, of course it is.”
