Paul McCartney, this year’s Glastonbury headliner hopeful, doesn’t expect the festival to continue into 2021.
The former Beatles star told BBC Radio 4: “100,000 people close together with flags and no masks, you know, we talk about super spreader. I would love to [happen]but I have the feeling that it won’t be like that.
McCartney said the festival was not on their 2021 schedule. This week, Glastonbury co-organizer Emily Eavis told the BBC they are doing “everything they can” to ensure that it takes place next year.
She said: “The difficult part is understanding exactly what we will be planning and what impact that will have on what we can do. But at this point I’m not sure that there is anything we can do that will fully ensure that we can host 200,000 people to spend six days in some fields in June 2021. “
Eavis said that if the festival cannot be held in its traditional way, organizers will consider inviting artists to perform at the farm for a series of live broadcasts.
McCartney appeared on Radio 4 to talk about his new solo album, McCartney III, written and recorded solo at Lockdown, which The Guardian called “McCartney’s most enjoyable and certainly the most personal album since 2005 Chaos and Creation in the Backyard “.
He also said he wanted to encourage people to get the Covid-19 vaccine: “If you allow me, I will.” In April, he blamed Chinese wet markets for the spread of the coronavirus and described eating bats as “medieval.”
