A one-man crime spree struck nine homes in one night just one week after his release from prison.

James Sanders was released in March and, after just seven days of freedom, robbed the homes of his victims in the middle of the night.

The 34-year-old, who does not have a fixed address but is from Wirral, broke into Wirral homes in the early hours of Tuesday, March 24.

During a robbery, he was caught on camera when he tried to remove the CCTV device from one of the victim’s properties.

Six robberies were carried out in Eastham and one in Bromborough.

He then tried to steal another property in Rock Ferry and one in Prenton.

He was arrested a day later as a result of the CCTV footage.

James Sanders, 34, of Liverpool was sentenced today to 6 years behind bars after he was found guilty of nine counts of robbery.

Detective Inspector Steve Ball said. “It was only through CCTV that Sanders was identified when he tried to remove the camera from one of the victim’s properties!”

“Sanders committed seven robberies and two attempted robberies, six in Eastham, one in Bromborough, one in Rock Ferry, and one in Prenton. After being identified through CCTV and forensic examination, he was arrested on March 25 and convicted of early this month of all crimes. “

DI Ball added: “At the time of these robberies, the public was already concerned regarding the coronavirus, and the added threat of someone trying or actually breaking into your home and stealing your belongings, only multiplies the fear and anger of those who live on the Wirral must have felt.

“I am pleased that Sanders was promptly arrested and, thanks to a thorough investigation, has been brought to justice today.
