Olivier Giroud insists he is ‘focused’ on making an impact on Chelsea after scoring the winning goal against Rennes in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Callum Hudson-Odoi had put Frank Lampard’s team ahead in the first half, but Serhou Guirassy’s late draw seemed to salvage a draw for Rennes.

However, Giroud’s excellent header in injury time sealed Chelsea’s 2-1 victory and a place in the knockout phase of the Champions League with two group games to go.

During the international break, French manager Didier Deschamps advised Giroud to leave Chelsea to secure more playing time ahead of the Euro campaign next summer.

But the 34-year-old says his only goal is to make an impact at Chelsea.

“We must continue this good streak, we won tonight, even if it was with difficulty,” Giroud told RMC Sport.

“Obviously for an attacker when the coach brings you, you have to contribute something, now I am concentrating on what I have to do.

“When you call me, I do the work, nothing more.”

Meanwhile, Lampard says he has ‘selection problems’ with Giroud, Timo Werner and Tammy Abraham, all capable of spearheading Chelsea’s attack.

“That was great of him,” Lampard said.

Not only that, but also his heist game when he walked in, his physique.

‘I have selection problems because I have Tammy [Abraham] that he is playing well, and Oli who always brings that professionalism that way and was incredible at the restart. It’s a good problem.

‘Oli will get his minutes, he will start games because we have a busy schedule.

‘You saw such a reaction around the goal not just because he was a last minute winner, but because it was Oli, who acts like he does every day. It shows what it means to this team. ‘
