Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes the outsiders are trying to create a division at the club following reports that midfielder Bruno Fernandes had lost faith in his coach.
Reports emerged about the international break claiming Fernandes was unhappy with Solskjaer after the 6-1 home loss to Tottenham in the Premier League.
Fernandes, however, was quick to shut down any conversation about a rift between him and his manager when asked about international service with Portugal, saying the stories were created to “destabilize” the group.
Solskjaer was pleased with the response from his midfielder, who was signed by Sporting Lisbon in January, saying: “Welcome to Manchester United, this is what happens when you lose a partner.”
“It’s one of those things, you have to get over it as soon as you can and move on,” Solskjaer said of the Spurs beating.
“We know any external possibility that they want to create a division. I think Bruno spoke very well the other day, saying, ‘We are united and we have to stay together.
“We can’t listen to everyone outside, we have to move on.
“Bruno has already lost two league games since he came to the club and arrived in February, although it has been two in quick succession, so he is not used to losing league games for us.
“They are going to try to create a division between us, but that is not going to happen because this group wants to stick together.”
‘Maguire has a great capacity for recovery. I know it will recover ‘
United captain Harry Maguire is a doubt for Saturday’s trip to Newcastle, says Solskjaer, but he also hopes the defender will get over his start-to-season nightmare.
Maguire’s poor form with United followed him through the international break with England and he was sent off in Wednesday’s 1-0 defeat to Denmark in the Nations League.
Solskjaer said: “When Harry is part of the England team that beat Belgium’s number one, it’s a normal day and then he makes the headlines when he’s sent off. That’s just football for you.
“There are so many ups and downs that we have to deal with, individually and as a group.
“Harry has great resilience. I know he will bounce back. I’ll know that he wants to play, that he just wants to get out of the last two games he’s been criticized for. [for].
“He received a blow against [Denmark] right before he came out so hopefully he’s in shape. We saw it yesterday (Thursday) and we will test it again today. “
‘Pogba will be here another two years’
It was already a difficult international break for United and Solskjaer, made worse by midfielder Paul Pogba, once again flirting with his “dream” of moving to Real Madrid when he was away with France.
Pogba, whose contract expires at the end of this season, also said United had not come close to a new contract.
United can extend Pogba’s contract for a further 12 months, something that Solskjaer appeared to confirm the club would be doing, as he responded to the World Cup winner’s latest comments about Real and their future.
“Paul is our player, he will be here for another two years and I am sure that Paul is focused on doing the best for us and we want to see the best of Paul,” Solskjaer said.
“So in the next two years I’m sure we’ll get the best of him.”
