Odsonne Edouard “didn’t seem interested in Celtic” before being brought down against St Johnstone amid intense speculation about his future.
That’s the view of Livingston midfielder Marvin Bartley, who believes that rumors linking Edouard to a transfer to Aston Villa and other Premier League clubs are having an obvious effect on the forward.
Edouard started the campaign with a hat-trick against Hamilton in August, but has only managed one goal in the Scottish Premiership since then.
He was substituted ahead of time against St Johnstone on Sunday without making any impact before Celtic scored two late goals for all three points.
Commenting as an insider on BBC Sport, Bartley said: “He has set such high standards and, he didn’t seem to be the same today, he didn’t seem fully invested in actually being at Celtic.
“We see some clips here and the ball is going into him, he gets into the swing, the first half is so, so good and then his touch lets him down when he tries to move forward.
“So different from him. Once again, Frimpong hits the ball on the right side, goes in to show he’s moving things.
“Even his reaction to turning the ball … in the 60th minute is gone and he can’t really argue. I think Celtic obviously the window closes tomorrow, hopefully from his point of view he will still be there on Tuesday. in the morning and hopefully he can start from there on. “
Edouard, believed to be valued at around £ 35 million, has been linked to Villa for several months, as well as Arsenal and Leicester City.
His coach Neil Lennon said at the weekend that the 22-year-old former PSG striker has been affected by the speculation, but hopes the situation will change once the transfer window closes.
“He has three or four more gears to come,” Lennon said. “He is a brilliant player, but we are not seeing the best of him at the moment.
“I think it is evident that [transfer speculation] It has been affecting you. Hopefully it will calm down once the window is closed and it suits us. “
