A nurse died after being hit by a car outside Wrexham Maelor Hospital.
It happened shortly before 8.30pm Thursday on Watery Road when the man was hit by a Vauxhall Astra.
Hospital staff attended along with other emergency services, but the nurse died at the scene.
North Wales Police said the driver did not stop after the incident and is believed to have attempted to escape from a police patrol before the collision.
The pedestrian struck by the car was confirmed to be a 46-year-old service staff nurse at the Maelor.
Chief Superintendent Alex Goss said: “This is a tragic incident and our thoughts go out to the man’s family, friends, colleagues and all those affected, including the emergency services and health personnel who attended last night.
“Our condolences to all of them at this incredibly difficult time and the specially trained Police Family Liaison Officers are assisting them.
“We are asking for witnesses to the collision and anyone who may have been in or around the Watery Road area and has seen the black Vauxhall Astra or has dash cam footage should contact the Wales Police of the North as soon as possible. “
Gill Harris, Acting Executive Director of the Betsi Cadwaladr University Board of Health, said: “We have tragically lost a long-time and valuable member of our team at Wrexham and our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to his family today.
“This is also a difficult time for your colleagues and friends and we will make sure they have all the support they need.”
The North Wales Police have referred the incident to the IOPC (Independent Office of Police Conduct).

Following the incident, a man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, driving under the influence, driving while disqualified and failing to stop. He remains in police custody.
