Northern Ireland Coronavirus: Nine More Deaths Reported by Health Department

Sadly, nine more people have died in Northern Ireland after contracting Covid-19, according to the latest figures from the Department of Health.

This brings the total number of coronavirus deaths recorded by the Health Department to 983 since the pandemic began.

The department’s daily dashboard update also revealed that 315 more people tested positive for the virus, bringing the total number of new cases in the past week to 2,429.

Belfast has had the highest number of new infections in the last seven days, with 368, followed by Mid Ulster with 283 and Derry City and Strabane with 276 new cases.

The 40-59-year-old age group had the highest number of new cases in the last week, with 725, followed by the 20-39 age group with 654.

There are currently 410 hospitalized patients with the virus.

A total of 33 patients are in intensive care with Covid-19 and 29 are being treated with ventilators.

In Northern Ireland, 51,824 people have tested positive for the virus since the outbreak began.

Northern Ireland entered a new coronavirus breaker at midnight Thursday.

The new restrictions cover the two-week period from November 27 to December 11 and their objective, says the Executive, is to stop the spread of the coronavirus in the community and protect the health service.
