Meanwhile, Health Minister Robin Swann marked an “enormously significant day for Northern Ireland” with the announcement that the first Covid-19 vaccine has been approved for widespread use.
Approval for the Pfizer / BioNTech coronavirus vaccine has been issued by the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA). Several other vaccines are in various stages of development, while the MHRA is considering another.
Vaccination is scheduled to launch starting this month, and the JCVI (Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunization) will determine which population groups will receive the vaccine first. Completion of the deployment will take up much of 2021.
