These are the areas in the Northeast with the highest rates of coronavirus as the region enters Level 4 restrictions.
Matt Hancock announced that the region would face the toughest restrictions in the House of Commons on Wednesday.
Newcastle, Gateshead, Northumberland, North Tyneside, Sunderland and County Durham entered the restrictions one minute after midnight on New Years Eve.
As the area entered tighter restrictions, there were several places in the region with infection rates exceeding 400 in the week leading up to December 25, according to data from Public Health England.
Ouston and Beamish had the highest infection rate in the Northeast, with a rate of 675.2 per 100,000 residents.
Ferryhill East and Cornforth have the second highest rate at 656.4, while Wingate and Castle Eden have a rate of 516.8.
Overall, Durham County has an infection rate of 248.6, with 1,318 cases recorded in the week leading up to Dec. 25.
The Newcastle local authority area has an infection rate of 132.4 and recorded 401 cases, making it the lowest infection zone in the Northeast.
Under Level 4 restrictions, nonessential shops, hair salons, and entertainment venues must close, with a new “stay home” message introduced. People can travel for education or childcare purposes, and exercise is unlimited.
Outdoors, people can only meet one person from another household at a time. And those at Level 4 must not leave the region in which they live.
The Government reviews the tier system biweekly, using various methods to decide how well areas are dealing with Covid-19.
