This is the first photograph of a schoolboy stabbed to death a few feet from his family’s home in North Woolwich.
Kayjon Lublin, 15, was named locally because the boy was found with stab wounds on Woodman Street, near Royal Docks in Newham, just before 7 p.m. Friday.
A 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder at an address in Newham shortly before 5 a.m. Saturday, the Metropolitan Police said.
The tributes flooded the college, which is believed to have attended St Bonaventure’s in Forest Gate.
Friend Khalif-Shakeil Edwards changed his profile picture on Facebook for a photo of the young man with the message: “Rest in peace my little G”.
He also wrote: “Rest in peace my little brother. June 2005-December 2020.”
Another young man posted on Twitter: “Viva Kayjon. Look at us, man.”
Detective Superintendent Paul Whiteman, CID chief for Northeast BCU, said: “I am shocked by this tragic loss of a young life.
“An arrest has been made, but the investigation is still in its early stages. I would appeal to any member of the local community to present any information that could help bring those responsible to justice.
“Local officials will intensify patrols in the area in the coming days to reassure the public and continue to target violent crime.”
The investigation is being conducted by the Met’s Crime (Homicide) Specialist Command. Anyone with information should call the incident room on 0208 345 3715.
Alternatively, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
