The Spurs faced an eight-game streak in 18 days early in the season, a fact their coach was eager to mention on Friday.
José Mourinho took aim at coaches who have complained about match congestion such as Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp, saying that no one cried for their Tottenham side during a brutal stretch of matches earlier in the season.
Klopp has been more outspoken about the need to better space matches, as the Liverpool manager has seen several of his players injured earlier in the season.
His last spiel came on the weekend like he said BT sport: “Playing at 12:30 after Wednesday is really dangerous for Premier League players.”
However, speaking ahead of Sunday’s north London derby against Arsenal, Mourinho said he did not receive much support from his teammates during an eight-game 18-day streak at the start of the season.
“By the way, we played four games in a week and nobody cried or supported us because of that. And now my teammates, when do you play these games? ”Mourinho said.
Several Premier League teams have a game in hand over Spurs, and Man Utd and Man City have games delayed after they took part in European competition in August.
“What is very difficult to accept is that four clubs have one less game than the others and I don’t even know when these games are going to play,” Mourinho said.
“I don’t even know when Burnley, Manchester City, Aston Villa, Manchester United and probably Newcastle and Aston Villa twice [are going to play].
“It is difficult to accept that because it can affect the competition. But I was trying to know. I was trying to find an answer this week and no one can give me that answer. “
Mourinho admitted that Sunday’s derby against Arsenal has more at stake as Spurs entered the match at the top of the Premier League table.
“It means more when we are not in the position we are in now,” he said. “Because we are in such a good position now, it’s a bit different. Because we want the points, we are not just like: ‘We want to beat Arsenal because beating Arsenal is the only good thing we can give to our fans.’
“It happened last season when we played Arsenal in the latter part of the season. It was about beating Arsenal to give something good, to have a good feeling.
“But we never forget the fact that there are historical rivalries and what they mean to the fans. Even for people who were not born in Tottenham, and many of us are in this situation. When you arrive at the club you understand the culture, you learn the culture and you share the values with the fans ”.
