Nicola Sturgeon coronavirus updates LIVE as most Scots roll back second lockdown if cases continue to rise

Nearly two-thirds of Scots would support a second national lockdown if coronavirus cases continue to rise, according to a new poll.

A study by YouGov spoke to 2,690 people across the UK about a possible return to restrictions seen in March, April and May.

Nicola Sturgeon hinted that new national lockdown restrictions could be imposed if local measures fail to stop the growing number of Covid cases in Scotland.

Seven city councils in the Greater Glasgow area currently have indoor social gathering bans, but the SNP leader suggested similar rules could be implemented elsewhere.

Meanwhile, partying college students face being kicked out of their accommodation after police were called in to break up several “illegal gatherings.”

The University of Edinburgh has been forced to issue a stern warning to its students after repeated violations of social distancing rules at Pollock Halls.

It comes after a ward is closed at Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock after a Covid-19 outbreak.

It is the latest concerning development in Scotland after Nicola Sturgeon answered questions about the coronavirus in parliament.

The Prime Minister announced 290 new cases overnight and no new deaths were recorded overnight in Scotland, bringing the total number of deaths to 2,501.

The total number of confirmed cases in Scotland now stands at 23,573 since the start of the pandemic in late March.

There are currently 52 hospitalized patients and 5 remain in intensive care.
