Nicola Sturgeon Reassures AstraZeneca Vaccine After Blood Clot Concerns

Yesterday, Nicola Sturgeon tried to reassure the Scots after several countries in Europe stopped the AstraZeneca vaccine due to blood clotting problems.

The Prime Minister said the medical body, the Medicines and Health Products Regulatory Agency, which is responsible for vaccines in the UK, was monitoring the problem.

Ireland stopped injecting the jab into its population yesterday, while the Netherlands temporarily halted the launch.

A review published by Norway’s medical agency over the weekend led several countries to suspend the vaccine while they investigate further.

So far, the Netherlands, Denmark and Iceland have stopped their programs.

She said: “In the UK, the decision to suspend the use of any vaccine is a matter for the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency.

“The MHRA has confirmed to us that there is no current evidence of an increase in blood clots caused by the AstraZeneca vaccine.

“That is the problem that has stopped the vaccine in some other countries.

“However, unsurprisingly, the MHRA continues to monitor this carefully and remains in regular contact with other regulators.”
